Back to nature roadtrip to Teluk Segadas, Pangkor

It was like an impromptu kind of thing which lead me and Messic (another author of EatnPlay) to this trip, which both of us never did regret joining in even though we only knew like 2 person out of 12 for this camping trip to Teluk Segadas, Pulau Pangkor. For us, this was an extremely awesome getaway to get the fuck out of our hectic, repetitive and monotonous city life in KL. Have you ever thought back thinking of what to do again for the upcoming weekends? I can tell you this straight, what most of us mid 20’s young adults who lives in the city will do; its either movies, drinking, clubbing, cyber gaming, gambling, shopping malls, yum cha or staying at home. This was only a 2 day 1 night trip but it was all good because we had heaps of fun, which I will walk you through my journey with words coming below =)

Everyone of us from this trip rendezvous at Kota Damansara before we head out for our journey to this super cool place called Teluk Segadas in Pulau Pangkor. We traveled on the coastal roads skipping the PLUS highway not because of avoiding the toll charges, the main reason is there was much more stuff to see and good food to eat on the way.

Just about an hour plus drive out from KL we stopped by Restaurant Nam Tai(南大茶餐室) which is located at Jalan Bunga Raya, Sungai Besar (GPS: N3 40.624 E100 59.187). Sungai Besar is located to the north of Sekinchan in Sabak Bernam. From the outside Nam Tai just looks like any other mainstream coffee shop found in small towns. Just after stepping into this old restaurant you will notice its fine and ancient style of antique furniture and they serve damn good coffee, half-boiled kampung eggs, toast bread and nasi lemak (way better than any KL coffee shops). Please make sure you try all of these if you plan to drop by here rest assured that you will not regret it at all.

After the breakfast stop we continued our journey heading north towards Lumut Jetty, Perak where it was almost noon when we arrived. Its been ages since I paid a visit to Lumut Jetty, I was like WOW DAMN this place totally changed, everything was rebuilt and refurbished. We parked our car at the Lumut multistorey carpark (never notice this before the last time I was here), which only costs you RM11 per night I find the price pretty decent for a covered and guarded carpark. Now there are properly built stalls selling dried sotong and batik shirts surrounding Lumut Jetty.

About half an hour later, the ferry which we were awaiting for arrived and brought us all for a 25 minutes ride towards Pulau Pangkor. Upon arrival at Pulau Pangkor Jetty(this place was heavily renovated as well) we headed down to this restaurant for our lunch which served pretty good chicken rice and lor mai kai (I couldnt recall the restaurant’s name), soon after that we took 2 taxi vans which brought us down towards Teluk Gedung. From this point, you can either choose to trek your way for 25minutes or take a less than 10 minutes boat ride into Teluk Segadas. The boat ride was chosen because we had lots of baggage which consists mostly food for the rest of the trip there.

Finally we arrived at our destination, Teluk Segadas. Where this part of the island is like a private beach strictly for our group of friends and another group of campers, pretty cool eh? Teluk Segadas is like a fucking paradise to me man, the last time when I was at Pangkor I only remembered the dirty beaches as well as sea water but this place proved me wrong, it is one part of south Pulau Pangkor that is secluded away from swarms of tourists stepping foot on which is why the beach here is very much cleaner, its almost as close as Tioman/Redang like clear sea water. Pretty hard to believe huh? Well I kid you not, just check out the pictures here.

This place is quite a proper campsite with some basic cooking amenities and a shabbily built toilet separated for both genders. After setting up our tents(6 men tent which costs RM30 rent for a night) we all stripped down to our bikini/trunks and jumped into the clear sea water for a swim and some mild tanning. The only shit part was there’s too many dead corals around which makes it hard for you to maneuver your way while walking in sea water as you head further towards the deeper parts of the sea. You may also rent a kayak from the hut keepers of Teluk Segadas or swing around like Tarzan on a solid rope tied to a tree. Close towards the evening we split ourselves into 2 different squads each responsible of separate tasks, one the wood collectors and another the bbq-pit-diggers.

During nightfall, we had our bbq pit fire setup almost done for cooking and preparing ourselves for an assorted bbq burger, hot dogs and meat feast. Majority of us were super hungry while waiting mainly because of the after effects of our afternoon activities. Lucky thing I brought a bottle of whiskey while someone had gambling cards else we would be bored to death after dinner, with these 2 deadly combos combined that leads us to some drinking games for the night. Everyone of us had a hell lot of fun chit-chatting, playing games and bonding with each other because most of us do not even know each other before this trip.

The next morning we had Maggi Mee, bread, tuna, eggs, milo and nescafe for breakfast before we left Teluk Segadas. One thing to be aware of here are the monkeys, these mammals are not afraid of humans at all as they hang around trees within the breakfast vicinity waiting for a chance to jump down and steal your food while your not paying attention. These monkeys will steal anything from the table even toothpaste gets stolen. After breakfast, most of us were just chilling around the beach while some of us had the chance to lie on hammocks built by the hut keepers of Teluk Segadas. It felt really relaxing as you close your eyes listening to the soothing wave sounds and whispering sea breeze while laying on the hammock, just amazing!

During our journey back, we stopped by Ping Gi Marine Products(5 minutes drive from the Lumut Jetty Parking) to grab some famous local assortment of flavored dried squids and salted fish before we head on to Restaurant Ahpek Lee Kou Hock(亚伯利口福椰芭海鲜) for lunch, its just 15minutes drive away from Lumut Jetty. This seafood restaurant was even recommended by Ah Xian, a famous TV Host cum Malaysian food reviewer. So you can roughly guess how good the food here actually is. We ordered ‘La La’ in special soup, fried oyster omelet, steam pomfret fish, asam prawns, black soy sauce chicken and a claypot tofu. Most of the dishes tasted really good as the seafood here is supremely fresh. I would recommend to try the fried oyster omelet which tasted superbly good and crispy, the crisp is totally different from the ones I have eaten before. Yes, and for alcohol lovers don’t forget to try their toddy + guinness stout =)

Overall this trip was an A+ for both of us EatnPlay authors, I had damn good time knowing some new friends which were pleasant companionship throughout the trip. I would definitely plan a trip back here in the near future. For those of you nature/outdoor lovers and adventure freaks/seekers this place will definitely not let you down.
